The Best Tent I've Used The Grid2 has surpassed my expectations, and after over 30 years of backpacking it's simply the best tent I've ever used. It's quick and easy to erect, and being fly-first it's ideal for Britain. It's loaded with really clever design features, and is beautifully made too. It's very roomy inside – I'm 6ft and there's plenty of space for two, but it packs down small and is pretty lightweight too. Best of all, though, is that I've just got back from the Rhinogs in Wales and after three days of gales and driving rain in the mountains I'm pleased to say my Grid2 was a joy to use. It was incredibly stable in the high winds, and kept us completely dry. The colour's really good – the dark green blends in to the background perfectly (I hate seeing orange tents and cagoules in the mountains!). The only negatives I can think of is that the porch is only just big enough for two rucksacks, inserting the poles into the fabric tubes is a bit tricky, and the front guyline gets in the way of the entrance. Other than that, it's perfect. As I do a lot of solo backpacking, it's a great shame there's not a one-man version available as my (lovely) Mountain Hardwear Sprite 1 just isn't in the same league! |
