James Stentiford

James has been snowboarding since 1987, now in his fourth decade of the sport. A lot has changed in that time, stances have gone from narrow to wide and back again, boots are actually comfortable and outerwear keeps you dry these days.

Coming from skateboarding he was naturally into jibbing and freestyle in the early days but spending seasons in Chamonix soon turned his attention to freeriding.

Getting hooked up by Quiksilver in 1997 gave him the opportunity to travel and so the search began for out of the way places to go snowboarding, from Greenland, India to Macedonia and Kyrgyzstan there have been some epic trips.

He has never really enjoyed competing but fell into competition snowboarding quite late in his career through the Freeride World Tour. Although a great experience travelling and competing with like-minded people, he doesn’t miss shitting himself at the top of some gnarly mountain. After all this time snowboarding hasn’t changed for him; he most looks forward to shredding around with friends on a powder day at home in Chamonix.
