5 Rad Snowboard Festivals

Snowboarding all day with your mates then partying all night with some of the world best DJ’s and live acts. Sounds good, right? Of course it does! Ever since Snowbombing started back in 99’ we’ve seen an explosion in the number of snowboarding festivals popping up over Europe. With each festival delivering a different vibe, line-up of acts and mountain to explore it can be tough knowing which ones are good and which are well…not so good.

Here's five rad ones you should check out.

Horizon Festival

  • Dates: 26th March - 2nd April
  • Location:Arinsal, Andorra
  • Headliners: Floating points, ben UFO, Mala, Craig Charles , Romare, Oneman, AJ Tracey
  • Price: from £299 (festival wristband and accommodation)

Andorra; home to the Pyrenees Mountains, tax-free booze/fags and now Horizon festival. This year, Arinsal ski resort plays host to the 120 DJs, live Acts and Horizon’s notoriously weird and wonderful side shows. One of these is their hostel. Converted for the festival it has DJ sets in dorm rooms, interactive performances and mind-bending décor.

Every day the mountain-top stage pumps out tunes from early afternoon till the sun sets. After that it’s down to one of the many clubs in the village or to the ‘secret’ rave in the forest. There’s plenty of other stuff to do around the site including paintball, yoga or even a fully equipped music lab to make some beats in if you want to.

Snowbombing

  • Dates: 3rd - 8th April
  • Location: Mayrhofen, Austria
  • Headliners: De la Soul, Chase & Status, Run the Jewels, Blossoms, Dixon, Grandmaster Flash, David Rodigan
  • Price: from £299 (festival wristband and accommodation)

The holy mecca for partying/snowboarding, Snowbombing consistently delivers a huge party in the Austrian Alps. It has a stupidly-big list of acts, quirky venues (underground tennis club, igloos etc) and doorstep access to amazing terrain/parks. Vans Penken park is always fun to ride with a solid team of experienced shapers looking after it you know its going to be good. This year there is 6 unique lines, a jib area and a separate beginner's park to keep you entertained.

Worldwide Festival

  • Dates:23rd - 26th March
  • Location:Leysin, Switzerland
  • Headliners:Giles Peterson, Henry Wu, Red Greg, Nia Andrews, James Zoo, Lefto
  • Price:90 euros (lift pass and festival ticket) or uprgrade to 130 euros for a week long lift pass

Gilles Peterson and Worldwide crew bring you an eclectic mix of music from all over the world in an intimate setting. The festival ticket and lift pass are well priced but watch out for the beers and food they are expensive in Switzerland. One of the smaller events its a great chance hang out with your favourite DJ's and become part of the worldwide community for the weekend.

Caprices Festival

  • Dates:6th – 9th April
  • Location: Crans Montana , Switzerland
  • Headliners:Ben Klock, Jamie Jones, Sven Vath, Marcel Dettmann, Talaboman
  • Price:CHF 299 (day and evening festival ticket)

Electronic music only, if you want a club atmosphere with jaw-dropping scenery then this is the one for you. The festival is split in to two sessions every day. An open top tent sits on the slopes in the day (MDRNTY) and a heavy hitting night (THE MOON) in the arena at the bottom of the lifts. A large sized wallet definitely helps with this festival but the line-up is lives up to the price-tag.

Snowboxx

  • Dates: 18th - 25th March
  • Location:Avoriaz, France
  • Headliners:Basement Jaxx, Bicep, High Contrast, Yousef, Hannah Wants, Chinese Man
  • Price: from £239 (5 day lift pass, festival ticket and accommodation)

Snowboxx have some big plans for the festival this year. They’re taking over various bars for Apres on the slopes. Then it’s down the hill to the main stage as the sun sets before heading over to their exclusive club ‘XX’ to keep on raving.
