The king of hardshells
The alpha ticks all my boxes, it fits perfect in large, I'm 6'1 and it still manages to cover my bum which my beta doesn't. The hood is simple to adjust and fits a dream , it turns with your head and doesn't slide in your eyes, the little rim works for keeping the worst out of your eyes, so full marks in that department. While the pro fabric isn't totally quiet it is a remarkable improvement and even with hood up one can have a conversation without having to shout over the rustling of fabric, which also feels nicer to the touch than some other shells, more silky and substantial, which adds to the comfort levels when caught out between rain and rocks. The alpha's cut will happily accommodate for quite a few layers underneath, yet doesn't look or feel baggy when just thrown over a shirt.
Another feature worth mentioning is the little foam pads in the hem which keep the jacket from riding up when wearing harness or backpack, it works, and I'm amazed no one else has come up with it yet, pure genius! Of course the jacket is waterproof to the degree that you can hose yourself down after having played in the mud, even the zips will handle this treatment without leaking...
In my opinion, one of the best pro shell jackets out there, not the cheapest but well worth the investment as it's built to last.
LIGHT AND WATERPROOF.
