The Explorer is the easiest going board in the Jones range and is aimed at riders who are looking for a softer and more forgiving freeride focused board, without that all or nothing feel of, say, a Flagship.
Built around a fully directional shape it features Jones's freeride inspired Directional Rocker profile. This blends a longer rocker zone in the nose with a dynamic setback camber under the feet and short rocker in the tail to give effortless powder riding, but also giving the board a really solid and responsive ride when hitting the piste.
But Jones has also been clever with this board. Instead of following the norm and adding a really stiff tail as you would expect on such a freeride focussed board, they've actually gone completely the other way, and have given the Explorer a softer more freestyle inspired flex. This takes a lot of aggression out of the board and gives it a more playful and forgiving overall feel without sacrificing any big mountain performance, ensuring that the Explorer really can be ridden by anybody.á
For this season Jones has taken the opportunity to give the Explorer a complete makeover and this is nowhere more obvious than in the new Magne Traction edge profile. This features mellow bumps in the sidecut under both feet and in the centre which creates additional bite points in the edge, improving edge hold and stability. Internally it's also all new and heading this up is high quality Slovenian poplar core. This delivers the perfect balance of stiffness and durability and works in perfect harmony with the boards easy-going Bi-Ax glass structural layers to give the Explorer a more friendly and refined ride.
Finally, the upgraded 7000 sintered base delivers great performance across a wide range of snow conditions.
