The First Call is a new addition to the Salomon range for 17/18 and is aimed at freestyle riders who are looking for a board that allows them to take their park riding skills deep into the backcountry. Based around a powder focussed shape evolved from the highly-acclaimed Derby, it delivers what can only be described as one of the most fun rides you'll ever strap to your feet.
Heading up the First Call is that unique shape, although at first glance it looks fully directional, it's actually a twin, albeit a twin with a tapered profile. What this does is improve the overall balance of the board, without compromising its performance in the pow, creating that perfect combination of freestyle feel and back country control. Now one of the key elements to the First Call's versatility, is the choice of the Rock Out camber profile. This state of the art shape combines flat between your bindings for stability, camber near the feet for response and a rocker on the tip/tail for pressability, delivering a board that goes above and beyond its remit. Now to ensure that the First Call isn't a lame duck when it comes to blasting around the resort, Salomon add their advanced Quadralizer sidecut. This combines Equalizer and Quadratic sections to deliver a truly stunning ride on piste, elevating the First Call from back country play thing to all terrain charger.
Internally Salomon don't hold back when it comes to construction, ensuring that no matter what or where you ride, you can be secure in the knowledge that this is one board that you can rely on. Heading this up, is the responsive Aspen Select Popster core with Ghost Basalt stringers. This poppy wood core delivers a powerful flex through the length thanks to the advanced milled profile and basalt reinforcing running tip to tail. However, to keep with the First Call's freestyle soul, and to give it that extra fun factor, Salomon create the structural layers from a softer more playful Bi-Ax glass. To finish, the First Call utilises a super-fast sintered base, ensuring no matter the conditions, I'll always be at its best.
