The Piva family had been making high-performance outdoor footwear in the Dolomites when they started to see snowboarders riding their local resort, Cortina (circa 1991).
One of the younger members of the family, Gianni, became interested in the sport and the company transitioned into making snowboard boots. The first Northwave boots were far superior to rivals, offering more comfort and support beyond the other basic designs.
The boots Gianni and family make have always been at the forefront of technology, introducing new designs and materials. In 1997 they merged with Drake Bindings and later created Drake snowboards, completing their hardware set-up. Decades later and they continue to make some of the best value-for-money boots.
