Sharing the same advanced 3DN directional shape as the powerhouse Ultralight, the freeride Megalight is aimed at riders looking for a high-performance freeride board but who want a more rider-friendly feel compared to its all or nothing sibling. Built around a state of the art directional shape, the Megalight features a more extended, fuller diamond tip nose profile. This innovative shape gives outstanding lift and float at the front of the board but has a relatively low swing weight for increased feel and control. At the rear, the cut back tail helps drop the back end in the pow, once again helping that deep snow performance. However, that shorter tail is also responsive, which means the Megalight has the power to drive the board through a carve. To ensure that the Megalight delivers the perfect freeride flex, it utilises advanced 3DN construction. This innovative 3D milling process comprehensively profiles the core to ensure power is directed where needed. Channelling this energy to the right places results in a dynamic ride where everything is maximised to full effect, creating a lightning-fast response and a level of control and stability that defies snowboard norms. Internally the Megalights construction is formatted to combine weight saving with a dynamic and responsive yet comfortable ride. Shape Overview
The Megalight’s fully directional shape utilises an extended diamond-tipped nose and shorter cut back tail. The diamond shape allows the designers to add volume to the nose to enhance lift and float but, more importantly, get that volume without resorting to a more oversized, more volume-focused nose shape. The advantage this has, especially on a board like this, is that you get float, but not at the expense of swing weight. So when you’re charging on piste, it never feels like the front of the board is trying to push out the carve, so you can concentrate on driving through the turn rather than trying to keep the nose engaged. At the tail, that shorter but stiffer tail shape helps drop the tail in the pow. But I think, more importantly, it lets you drive the back of the board in the carve and powers up those edge to edge transitions.
Profile
The freeride inspired Directional Rocker combines an extended rocker zone at the nose with camber between the feet and a shorter rocker at the tail. This profile allows the board to float effortlessly in deep snow while still delivering a responsive and dynamic ride on hardpack terrain.
Construction
Regarding construction, the Megalight combines high-end materials with advanced design to create a responsive and dynamic board that perfectly blends performance and rider-friendly feel. Heading up the Megalight’s high-end build is the Light Core. This lightweight wood core combines poplar, beech and lightweight paulownia to deliver a poppy yet featherweight foundation to the board. Nidecker then profiles this core with its advanced 3DN process. 3DN mills the core over its entire length and width to create specific flex zones and power transfer to optimise performance directly to where it has the most effect. Power transfer and flex control are further enhanced with the N Tech construction. This state of the art technology combines cap construction in the nose and tail with sandwich construction through the centre. This creates torsionally stiffer zones at the tips delivering lightning-fast turn initiation and exit combined with locked-in stability through the middle of the turn. Now, as you’d expect on a board like this, the Megalights structural layers are a bit special. Utilising 45° tri-ax glass reinforced with carbon/basal/Kevlar forks running from the insert packs to both the tip and tail. This performance lay-up increases pop, torsional stiffness and reactivity all whilst adding an extra level of dampening. The board is then further dampened with the addition of a vibration-absorbing layer of Absorbnid on the upper layers of the core.
Base
As the Megalight is all about high-end performance, Nidecker doesn’t hold back when it comes to the base. Their exclusive N-9000 base material is produced with carbon nanoparticles and has a very dense molecular structure. This makes it Nidecker’s fastest, most durable base material.
