Patagonia

Yvon Chinard began making and selling climbing pitons in the early 60’s to support his itinerant (climbing and surfing) lifestyle. On a trip to Scotland he bought a rugby shirt for an extra layer and was impressed at how the collar stopped his sling rubbing on his neck. He started to import similar shirts into the U.S for a while before deciding that he wanted to make his own clothing, that better met the demands of climbers.

Since then Yvon and Patagonia have been perfecting practical and environmentally friendly clothing for use in the mountains.
