We’re really pleased to announce that CALM are TSA's latest supported charity. CALM is a charity that is leading the movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives, with 75% of all UK suicides being males. CALM are proactively tackling this through awareness, support and action. TSA’s team of staff, riders, and friends taking part in the Tour de Test Valley is just the first of many future collaborations with CALM.

The Tour de Test Valley was born from the tragic loss of Nelson Pratt in 2012. Offering a fun challenge, the ride was set up to remember Nelson and create a lasting legacy aimed at smashing the stigma around mental health. Nelson was one of the UK’s most talented and popular snowboarders, a key part of the TSA family and much-loved GB Snowboard Team coach.

Here’s what head of TSA Jeremy Sladen had to say:

“Nelson was and always will be an integral part of the TSA family, his passing was devastating not only for us and his family and friends, but also for the sport of snowboarding as a whole. Nelson's Tour de Test Valley and the impact it's had on raising awareness of both male suicide and the work of CALM is fitting testament to the memory of Nelson.

Like everybody else, we were shocked to see the statistics around male suicide, so for us working with CALM became something we felt was important for us to do, not only to help CALM raise awareness, but also as a way to pay tribute to a friend who shared our love and passion for snowboarding.”

Tour de Test Valley founder Marcus Chapman also had the following to say:

“Nelson’s bond with TSA goes way back, from spreading his knowledge to wide-eyed grommets on the TSA stand at the Ski Show, to TSA supporting him to become one of the best snowboarders to emerge from our fine shores. It’s so cool to keep this bond and legacy going through Nelson’s Tour de Test Valley, using his story to crucially help reduce suicide and the archaic stigma surrounding mental illness. Ride on Nelly”

So come September 18th our team from TSA will undertake the challenge that is Nelson’s Tour de Test Valley, celebrating Nelson’s life and raising money for CALM.
